Presented on the walls of Gallery Frames in Pioneer Square, Downtown Seattle, Some Space is a unique, artist-run gallery exhibiting monthly showcases of local artists. Long-time employees of the frame shop, Daniel Carrillo and Shaun Kardinal started this project to provide a space for talented artists who have not yet had the opportunity to show their work in the ever-growing art community of Pioneer Square.
Running a gallery out of a frame shop has the added benefit of a particular, frequently visiting clientele - artists, gallerists and collectors alike. Our hope is to further connect our artists with those who visit; to impress upon the gallerists the level of talent that can be found in non-traditional gallery settings; and to meet the needs of collectors, both budding and seasoned, with quality, affordable artwork.
Keeping artwork affordable is essential. Some Space accomplishes this by keeping our commission low, contributing to advertising and reception costs and providing inexpensive framing solutions for the work. In addition, all press releases, advertising design, website maintenance, framing and installation are handled in-house.

At the end of 2008, co-founder Shaun Kardinal bowed out of Some Space. Daniel Carrillo continues to run all aspects of the project.
Daniel Carrillo (b. 1973) is a self-taught mezzotint artist and photographer. Born in Mexico and raised in California, he moved to Seattle in 1997 and began working at Gallery Frames in 1998. He has been printmaking for four years and shooting since high school. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Seattle, including Davidson Galleries, Gallery 110, Sev Shoon, CoCA and the inaugural show at Some Space, and included in several juried exhibitions. He is currently working on new mezzotints and photographing with a large format camera.
