Float, Flitter, Fade | New Work by Noah Overby
Inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, Noah constructs poetic images from cloud forms, floral images and decorative patterns. These paintings use a simple, pared down visual vocabulary to explore themes of tranquility and impermanence. They are intended to convey a hushed-dream like mood that sparks memories and associations for the viewer.
Seattle P-I calls Float, Flitter, Fade a best bet!
As a twist on Tacoma Art Museum's title, "Sparkle Then Fade," Noah Overby offers "Float, Flitter, Fade" as the name for a sweet but rigorous series of landscapes in the sky. These Images are small, but they have scale and suggest a wide sky in acrylic paint and collage on canvas. -Regina Hackett

... Overby's clouds are almost uniformly puffy: rounded, exaggerated versions of what we so rarely see in Seattle- white clouds against a blue sky. For the most part, these clouds are not wet indicators of oncoming storms. Most are not dark or menacing, though they might leak just a dribble of rain.
